Bienvenidos! Welcome!
We are an organization of Spanish and Portuguese educators and other professionals in North Carolina. We include teachers of kindergarten all the way to college professors. We are a chapter of the national (actually international) organization AATSP or American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
For most educators, this is a year-around profession even if we are only in the classroom ten months of the year. To this end, we sponsor and attend several conferences throughout the year, including:
- Spring Conference: traditionally a joint conference of AATSP-NC and AATF-NC. This year it was organized by AATF-NC and was held at North Carolina State University. In 2010 we are collaborating with SCOLT for the Spring Conference. It will be held in Winston-Salem April 15-17. For more information, please see SCOLT's website at www.scolt.org.
- Summer Conference: AATSP holds an annual conference during the summer. In Summer 2008, it was held in San Jose, Costa Rica. In Summer 2009, it will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For more information please see their website, www.aatsp.org
- Fall Conference: held during the FLANC (Foreign Language Teachers of North Carolina) annual fall conference. This year it will be in Raleigh September 24-26. For more information, please see their website, www.flanc.org

| Updates to List-Serve - POSTED ON - Wednesday, May 20, 2009It's hard to believe that summer is almost here. It is almost time to travel, attend workshops, teach summer session, clean out the classroom or just sit by the pool and recover from our never-ending stack of papers and lesson plans. We have recently updated the list-serve, based on the list of members from the national AATSP office. We divided our membership into separate groups based on the level or levels indicated. This will allow us to send out general messages as well as messages targeted specifically to each group. If you were placed in the wrong group or would like to receive messages for multiple levels, please contact admin@aatsp-nc.org.

| 2009 National Spanish Exam Results - POSTED ON - Saturday, April 25, 2009The results for the 2009 National Spanish Exam for North Carolina students are now available on our website.
This year, North Carolina had a total of 2,701 students participate in the 2009 National Spanish Exams - an increase of 86 students (3.28%) over last year.
The top five students in each exam level and category will be receiving plaques from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Where a tie occurs, both students will receive plaques and occupy individual positions in the competition. For example, if two people come in first both get plaques and the next student is third (no second place exists). If five people come in fourth they will all get plaques and there will be no fifth place. National placement for the state winners is also provided in the chart.
Teachers will receive the scores for all of their students in a separate email during the week of April 27th. Plaques should be in the mail by May 10th and received at schools by the 15th.
A total of 120 plaques will be sent out this year.
Congratulations to all who participated in this year's exams.
